WILLIAM W. LUNDQUIST

A native of Corpus, Will Lundquist is a nationally recognized expert in first party insurance law, focusing his practice exclusively representing individual and commercial insureds in property insurance claims across the country. Will spent his first six years defending insurance companies in property & casualty cases involving bad faith insurance claims and unfair settlement practices at Bracewell LLP, one of the largest and most well-respected law firms in the country. During that time, he served as coverage counsel for AIG, Fortis, UniCare, WellPoint and Assurant, along with their various affiliated insurance companies.

Not satisfied with fighting for insurers, Will left Bracewell in 2009 to lead a litigation group that assisted numerous corporate and individual clients in both state and federal court. Will was appointed Co-Liaison Counsel in several counties for the thousands of lawsuits arising out of Hurricane Ike commercial and residential insurance claims, and his firm served on Plaintiff Steering Committees for various MDLs created to manage the Hurricane Ike litigation. Focusing on Commercial First Party Property Damage Insurance Claims his entire career, Will knows how to work claims the right way to get the best results. In the last 5 years alone, Will has secured over $100 million in policyholder verdicts and confidential settlements.

Throughout the years, Will has received continued recognition for his expertise in litigating property insurance claims. He was named a Texas Rising Star (a Thomson Reuters service) 6 separate years (2008, 2011-2015) – less than 2.5% of all lawyers under age 40 practicing in Texas receive this designation. And every year since 2015, Will has been named a Texas Super Lawyer in Insurance Coverage (a Thomson Reuters service) – an honor bestowed on less than 5% of all lawyers practicing in Texas. These annual selections are made using a patented multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area.

Since 2013, Will has held a rating of “AV Preeminent” in the national Lexis-Nexis Martindale-Hubbell legal directory. The “AV” rating is the highest possible Martindale-Hubbell rating, and is “a testament to the fact that a lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence.” Less than 5% of all lawyers in the country have received this rating. Locally, Will has been named as a “Top Lawyer in Houston – Insurance Litigation” by Houstonia Magazine every year since 2014.

Recent Historic Verdict

Lundquist Law Firm has represented a large multi-tenant commercial complex in the middle of Corpus Christi for over two years, stemming from a dispute over an (allegedly) underpaid and poorly investigated Hurricane Harvey claim. In February 2020, after a week and a half-long trial, the firm prevailed over Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA). Throughout the entire litigation and even during trial, TWIA offered $0. The final judgment was entered by the trial court for over $4,200,000, recently determined by TopVerdict to be the #1 Texas verdict against any insurance company in 2020.

The trial was historic for several reasons–it was the first commercial property insurance claim to go to trial against any insurance company stemming from Hurricane Harvey damage in 2017; it was the first trial TWIA has lost under the new laws that have been in effect since 2011; and it was the first jury verdict ever to obtain “improper denial” and “specific intent to harm” findings against TWIA. Cause No. 2018DCV-3027-D; Commerce Office Park-One, L.P. vs. Texas Windstorm Insurance Association; In the 105th Judicial District Court, Nueces County, Texas.
